I knew the moment that I saw Mimi Dietrich on Simply Quilts showing her "Chesapeake Rose" quilt, from her book, "Quilts from the Smithsonian", that this was a quilt I just had to make, and it would be for something really special. That something special was the marriage of our oldest son, Les and Mary back in May of 1999. It took me over five years to complete this my 14th bed quilt. All of the applique and quilting designs are trapuntoed. Several years ago, I had the pleasure of meeting Norma Campbell who along with others worked on the "Chesapeake Rose" quilt with Mimi Dietrich. She became an instant friend, and I wish everybody could meet Norma Campbell! Last year while attending a quilt show, Norma introduced me to Mimi Dietrich. I told Mimi about my "quilt in progress". I hope my quilt makes these two ladies proud as I know it has my family, and may I express my appreciation for their efforts in preserving and sharing such special patterns as from the Smithsonian museum. I hope this quilt brings as much pleasure to those who view it, as it has to me in making and sharing it with our children. And I also hope it brings inspiration to others, that they may someday make their own. Completed January 2, 2005.
