Rich's Millennium Stars
63" X 84"
This quilt was made for the youngest, our son Rich, one of the five most special men in my life (my husband, three sons, and my father). It is made from Civil War era reproduction fabrics, and was all traditionally pieced (used no paper piecing). It has Ohio and Evening Stars, and no two are alike. I used Hobbs Poly Down for the batt, and Poly-Fil extra-loft by Fairfield for the trapunto. With much patience, I drew the trapunto design for the border. I have had no art classes, and struggle to draw stick people. I was so happy to be able to try to draw a design that might fit in the space I needed to fill.
It was made for Rich's High School Graduation with Honors in the class of the year 2000. This quilt also brought special joy to my family when it won first place in the category Pieced Bed Quilts (award sponsored by Quilts Plus) at the "Quilt America-2000" quilt show in Indianapolis, IN in July. This was the first show this quilt was in, and the competition included professionals and hand quilters. The pattern is from "Legacies of Love" by Susan H. Garman. Finished June 1, 2000.
